Yard gate and lighting controlled from the tractor cab

A ready-made two-channel OPC-K2/1000 set: a high-sensitivity receiver at the gate and a long-range remote control in the cab. Channel 1 opens the gate, channel 2 switches the yard lighting on and off.

01 / Investment context

What problem does this configuration solve?

The farm has a fenced yard with a motorised entrance gate and lights on poles. In season the tractors come back from the fields after dark, often with a trailer or a mounted implement.

The driver stops the tractor in front of the gate, climbs down from the cab, opens the gate with a button, climbs back, drives in and then looks for the light switch. In the dark, in mud and with the engine running, this wastes time and risks a slip when climbing down.

An ordinary gate remote is not enough: its range is short, while the gate is best opened earlier, from the access road, so that a tractor with a trailer does not have to stop in front of it on the road.

The investor’s goal: The driver opens the gate and switches on the yard lights from the cab, while still on the access road, without getting out.

How does this configuration work?

The core is a ready-made two-channel set (OPC-K2/1000): a high-sensitivity receiver with an H2 module (OPC-K02) and a long-range remote control (RNB-101S) with a flexible antenna. On open ground the set works up to about 1000 m, so the gate can be opened from the access road before the tractor reaches it.

The receiver is mounted by the gate operator, with its antenna facing the access road. Channel 1 works in monostable mode: key 1 gives a short pulse to the “open” input of the operator’s control unit, and after the vehicle has passed, the operator’s own automatic closing shuts the gate, guarded by photocells. Channel 2 works in bistable mode: key 2 switches the yard lighting on, and the next press switches it off. The relay drives the coil of the lighting contactor, not the lamps themselves.

Each tractor has its own long-range remote control (RNB-101S), stored in the memory of the same receiver. The memory holds 113 transmitters, so another machine or the farmer’s car can be added without replacing the receiver.

02 / Operating principle

From signal to action.

A remote control in the tractor cab opens the gate and switches on the yard lights — from the access road, without getting out.

  1. 01 / Signal source

RNB-101S Long-range remote in the cab

The driver presses the key while still on the access road.

  2. 02 / Reception

OPC-K02 Receiver by the gate operator

Picks up the remote from up to about 1000 m on open ground.

  3. 03 / Action

Gate and lights The receiver’s two channels Gate Lighting

Key 1 opens the gate, key 2 switches the lighting on and off.

The driver does not climb down from the cab in the dark. After passage the gate operator’s automation closes the gate, and the remote for each further machine is added to the same receiver.

Devices in this configuration

An example selection — the number of devices depends on the site.

OPC-K2/1000 — 2-channel kit, 1000 m

OPC-K2/1000

Ready-made set: the two-channel OPC-K02 receiver by the gate operator and the RNB-101S remote control for the first tractor. Channel 1 — gate, channel 2 — yard lighting.

RNB-101S — Long-range multi-button remote

RNB-101S

Long-range remote control for the second tractor, with a flexible antenna and a 9 V battery; it is stored in the same receiver.

Installation component

12 V DC power supply

Powers the receiver (10–15 V DC) if the gate operator has no 12 V DC output for accessories.

Quantity: as needed

Catalogue figures describe a device under stated conditions, usually in open terrain, and are not a guaranteed range in every installation. Device quantities in the examples are indicative.

04 / Value for the investor

What does this solution give you?

No climbing down from the cab

The driver does not climb down from the cab in the dark to open the gate and switch on the lights — the tractor and trailer drive into the yard without stopping.

Gate open before arrival

A range of up to about 1000 m lets the driver open the gate from the access road, so the tractor does not wait in front of it with the engine running.

A ready-made set

The receiver and remote control come matched in a set, and remotes for further machines are added to the receiver’s memory — without designing an installation.

05 / Before installation

What needs to be settled for a similar investment?

Before devices are chosen, what matters is the site’s conditions and how the system ties into the final installation.

Requirements to verify

  • A gate operator with an “open” input and automatic closing with photocells — then the key in the cab only opens and does not toggle the gate’s movement.
  • The receiver output, 1 A / 30 V DC, drives the operator input and a lighting contactor with a low-voltage coil, not the lamps.
  • A range test from the access road and the position of the receiver’s antenna — buildings, trees and a metal gate shorten the range.
  • 12 V DC power for the receiver — from the gate operator’s output or from a separate power supply.
  • The radio does not replace the gate operator’s safety devices — photocells and safety edges remain part of the gate automation.
